Resistor Color Code Calculator
Decode 4-band and 5-band resistor color codes to find resistance value and tolerance. Supports all standard color bands.
How It Works
Decode 4-band and 5-band resistor color codes to find resistance value and tolerance. Supports all standard color bands. Enter your values above and click Calculate to get instant results.
Formula
4-band: (D1×10 + D2) × Multiplier | 5-band: (D1×100 + D2×10 + D3) × Multiplier
Quick Examples
- Brown-Black-Red-Gold → 1000Ω ±5% (1kΩ)
- Brown-Black-Black-Brown-Brown → 1000Ω ±1% (5-band)
- Yellow-Violet-Orange-Gold → 47,000Ω ±5% (47kΩ)
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I read a 4-band resistor?
The first two bands are digits, the third is a multiplier (power of 10), and the fourth is tolerance. Read left to right from the end with bands closest together.
What does the gold or silver band mean?
Gold = ±5% tolerance, Silver = ±10% tolerance. These are the most common tolerance bands on standard resistors.
